Police in Huron are conducting another homicide investigation. Officers have arrested 24-year-old Edwin Thompson in connection with the death of 21-year-old Ryan Treadway.
Police responded to a fight at the Bradfield Leary Center, an assisted living center for people with mental illness. When they arrived Sunday night, they found Treadway lying behind the building in a pool of blood.
Friends are still shocked.
As they walk by the building where a friend died, John and Ashley Songer can hardly believe it happened.
"We saw the police cars over there and then we saw the ambulance show up," John said.
That was Sunday a little after 7 p.m. They assumed there was a fight or someone needing routine medical care.
They didn't find out what happened until Monday morning. An ambulance rushed Ryan Treadway to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.
"I was kind of scared because God knows who's going to be next," Ashley said.
Treadway and Edwin Thompson, who's now behind bars, knew each other but police won't say how or if either of them was living or working at the Bradfield Leary Center.
Although police aren't releasing details on the 21-year-old victim, the Songers say they knew him well.
"He was a really good friend," John said.
"I don't know who would want to kill him. He's a great guy to hang out with," Ashley said.
Police arrested Thompson but authorities aren't saying what charges he'll face.
"I hope he gets sentenced because he deserves it," Ashley said.
The process to determine whether that’s the case will begin Tuesday with his first court appearance. The Songers say they'll be there.
People at the assisted living facility said with an ongoing investigation, they have no comment at this time.
