A federal government Web site is showing how economic stimulus dollars are helping people find a job or keep the job they already have. The Obama Administration says nationwide more than 650,000 jobs were either created or saved through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. The stimulus money is making a difference in South Dakota.
The U.S. Government created Recovery.org so you can track how economic stimulus money is being spent.
If you highlight South Dakota, the site shows you close to 2,200 jobs were either saved or created with nearly $700 million in Recovery Act money.
Click on the state and each of the blue dots represents a contractor, school district, or other entities that received stimulus dollars.
According to the site, more than $300 million went to Pierre. And the Department of Education, Social Services, and Labor, and other organizations saw close to 1,100 jobs saved or created.
In Sioux Falls, 14 new jobs have been created or saved at non-profit organizations, and through work-study programs at Augustana College and the University of Sioux Falls.
In the Rapid City area, close to 70 jobs were either saved or created for the city, community service programs, and improvements to Ellsworth Air Force Base.
In Mitchell, 18 jobs were created or saved for water treatment and housing projects.
