Remodeling your home has become very common around the city of Sioux Falls. Homeowners are spending thousands of dollars to fix up what they have spent time investing in.

Home improvements have picked up across KELOLAND.

"Right now, they just replaced the sidewalk and he's doing some repairs on the side of the roof," homeowner Dave Swanson said.

Swanson would rather fix things up than make a move.

"We're getting close to retirement and we don't want to have another house payment for 30 years," Swanson said.

Swanson is one of many KELOLAND homeowners who are turning to construction companies to help them with repairs and renovations.

"Our phones are definitely ringing more now this time of year then they were a year ago," Able Construction owner Dennis Galbavy said.

Galbavy says some customers are updating their current homes because of the economy.

"Most homeowners have a lot of pride so they want to do things to make their houses a lot nicer and more presentable," Galbavy said.

And other customers have a different inspiration.

"They catch a lot of ideas from TV shows, magazines, some of these trade show going on," Galbavy said.

Galbavy says homeowners he's doing business with are spending on average $7,000 for repairs.

Galbavy is thrilled his business is still going strong in a recession. And Swanson is happy to do his part.

"Try to keep the economy going," Swanson said.

Fall is usually Able construction's slower season but this year, that's not the case.  The owner is hiring three more employees to keep up with the work.
