Friday morning at 9:30 central time some big changes are coming to KELO-TV. That's when our station will begin broadcasting exclusively in digital and shut off our analog signal. To help you better prepare, we're answering your DTV transition questions.
One viewer asked, will KELO's digital signal strength be more powerful once the complete switchover is made?
"Well, we're operating at full power right now on our digital signal. We'll continue to operate at full power after the transition on June 12. What will change for the Sioux Falls-area is that the frequency band that we operate our digital signal on. It will go from UHF to VHF, which could improve reception for some viewers," KELO-TV Director of Marketing and Creative Services Paul Farmer said.
Our second question comes from a viewer out of Sioux Falls, who has had occasional issues getting signal from small antennas. That viewer is wondering if a large roof-top antenna is necessary to get KELO's digital T-V signal.
"Most reception problems are antenna-related. So even though if you've received the analog signal and an in-home antenna, it may be necessary to switch to an outdoor antenna. It depends on where you live, the obstructions between your home and our transmitter tower," Farmer said.
We'll continue answering your questions about the digital transitions. All you have to do is email using the link below.
