In South Dakota alone, there are more than 32,000 homes that get their television broadcasts over-the-air, by antenna.  And a large number of them had to make an adjustment as part of the nation's DTV conversion.

When our newsroom phone rings, we're usually the ones getting your tips. But Friday, KELOLAND News and everyone at KELO-TV were the ones giving out tips, as our viewers called with questions about how to make the DTV conversion.

"So far, [the transition] has gone very very well. Most of the calls we've been able to answer.  We have a few that we're checking into, and will call back, but we've been ready to go," KELO-TV General Manager Jay Huzenga said.

Close to thirty calls came in within an hour of the switch over.

Many of the questions are dealing with antennas and rescanning using the converter box. Because of the signal change today, anyone getting our broadcasts over the air had to go through the re-scan, whether they knew it or not.  That, we found, helped many of our viewers get back to their normal TV schedule.

But you'll want to rescan every once-in-awhile as more stations offer more channels.

"We have a lot of staff that's here to answer questions," Huzenga said.
