"It's so much fun," camper Jessica Rohrbach said.
Jessica isn't sure how long she's gone to the camp but she says it's been at least a couple years. She plans to keep coming back for many more.
Erich Schaffhauser: Camp is boring isn't it?
Jessica: No!
Schaffhauser: Why not?
Jessica: Because I love to go to camp.
She likes bowling, but swimming is her favorite part. Camper Cody Bremmon can't pick just one thing.
"That we do fun, fun activities," Cody said.
Thirty-two campers are involved in this session of camp dream makers. Another session in June had 28. All of those kids are reasons Jessica loves camp, but there's another big reason too.
Schaffhauser: Who's that crazy lady walking around with a chicken on her head?
Jessica: Oh, chicken lady!
That's camp director Rose Kraft. She's been involved 26 years. "Chicken's been involved for about, well as dirty as it is, I'd say at least six years now," Kraft said.
Chicken on her head and all, her goal is to see every kid participate rather than sitting and watching. Camp is her life in the summer. The weeks she's not in camp, she's hearing all about it.
"I was working the voting in June. And one little girl comes running in and says, ‘Hi head chicken lady, you go to my camp,’" Kraft said.
Each year brings something different for Kraft to remember. Day one of July 2009's Camp Dream Makers is now done. Many more memories are sure to fill the two weeks ahead.
This year, Kraft says there are campers who came from as far away as Vermillion.
