The first of its kind clinical trial is wrapping up in Sioux Falls. It's called the Acufocus Corneal inlay and it's smaller than a contact lens -only 3.8 millimeters wide.
Vance Thompson Vision is currently looking for 30 more candidates to complete the trial before it is FDA approved. And that means the procedure is free for those who qualify.
“A little focusing device that fits inside our cornea centered on our pupil to help people that have great distance vision, but need reading glasses typically over the age of 45, not need reading glassed anymore,” said Dr. Vance Thompson.
The results show improved reading, almost immediately and even better over time.
“It actually only takes a few minutes. But they will have some blurry vision that night. They actually will enjoy improvement in their reading vision the next day,” Thompson said.
141 people across 5 sites in the U-S took part in the first 2 phases. 62 of those procedures were performed here in Sioux Falls.
Anyone interested in participating in the Sioux Falls area should contact Vance Thompson Vision at (888) 849-8787 or register online.
