Oacoma To Host State GOP Convention
The 2008 South Dakota Republican state convention is set for Friday and Saturday at Cedar Shore Resort in Oacoma.
Party officials say some committee meetings will be held on Thursday but that the convention will be called to order Friday morning.
GOP delegates will select a candidate for a Public Utilities Commission seat along with a national committeeman, national committeewoman and presidential electors.

The state election canvass will be conducted Tuesday at the secretary of state's office in Pierre, and at least one recount is likely to be requested once the canvass is done.
Democratic state Representative Jim Bradford of Pine Ridge, who fell 26 votes short in a primary election quest to jump over to the state Senate, may ask for a recount.

Minnehaha County Catches Votes In Canvas
The Minnehaha County Auditor reports that 415 ballots from Tuesday’s primary election were left out of the total count due to a loose cable in a ballot scanner at Precinct 1-3, O’Gorman. The ballots were reprocessed during the canvass, increasing vote totals for all candidates on the ballot in that precinct.
Additionally, 65 ballots from Precinct 3-12/VP-6, MariCar Community Center were run through the scanners twice.

McPherson County Tax Measures Fail
McPherson County voters have rejected a wheel tax and a bond measure.
The county commission had already approved the tax, but its decision was referred to a public vote by a signature campaign.
In Tuesday's referendum on the wheel tax of up to $16 per vehicle, 659 no votes and 202 yes votes were tallied.
