Rep. Stephanie Herseth Sandlin says the White House is demonstrating a renewed commitment to addressing the chronic problems plaguing Indian Country.
Herseth Sandlin has reintroduced legislation aimed at improving coordination between tribal, state and federal law enforcement agencies and increasing accountability standards. President Barack Obama thanked the South Dakota representative for her leadership on the issue Thursday during his speech to the Tribal Nations Conference in Washington.
Herseth Sandlin says the House and Senate are increasing funding for Indian issues. And the White House has a dedicated Indian affairs liaison in Jodi Archambault Gillette, who is helping to coordinate interagency cooperation.
