At 8:46 a.m. on September 11, 2001, the first plane hit the north tower at the World Trade Center in New York City. The minutes, hours and days that have passed since that moment will forever be embedded in the hearts and minds of many Americans. 

In the moment, it was difficult for many to believe their eye as the horror of the events unfolded over the next two hours. 

A collection of those sounds and images reflect the American spirit which never shown brighter than on that day and in the days ahead.
