The top-seeded Dakota Wesleyan University women’s soccer team remained unbeaten and advanced to the Great Plains Athletic Conference Women’s Soccer Postseason Tournament Thursday with a 1-0 win over No. 8 Concordia University at the Cadwell Park Soccer Complex in Mitchell, S.D.

The game was scoreless for the first 60 minutes despite several scoring chances for the Tigers, which improved to 16-0-3 this season. However, DWU freshman Kim Duff came in on a rush from the left side and put a shot on goal. Bulldog (7-10-2) keeper Ariel Harris made the save but Tiger freshman Abby Hubbard buried the rebound to give Dakota Wesleyan the win.

Though DWU only managed one goal, it controlled the tempo of the game from the outset. Junior goalie Dani Richardson needed to make just two saves to earn her 10th shutout of the season as the Tigers out shot Concordia 19-7, and held a 9-2 edge in shots on goal. Harris made seven saves in the loss. Dakota Wesleyan held a 15-2 edge in corner kicks and committed one more foul, 11-10.

Skye Pahl led the Tigers’ attack with five shots, including three shots on goal. Sky Swan, Duff, Kayla Pahl, Sarah Duff, Ellie Peterson and Hubbard each added two shots in the win. Carolyn Chrzan and Mallorie Blanck led Concordia with three shots apiece.

Tuesday’s victory is Dakota Wesleyans first postseason win in the five-year history of the program. A year ago the Tigers qualified for their first GPAC Tournament, but were ousted in the first round. This year, they’re advancing to the semifinals where they’ll continue to enjoy home-field advantage by virtue of their regular-season GPAC Championship.

The Tigers will host the semifinal game Tuesday, Nov. 10, at Cadwell at 1 p.m. DWU will take on the winner of Tuesday’s night’s 7 p.m. match between No. 4 Hastings College and the fifth-seeded University of Sioux Falls. That match had not yet started at the time of this release. The GPAC Championship game will be held Saturday, Nov. 14, and will be hosted by the highest remaining seed.
