CFB: Coyotes Top Cal Poly In A Shootout

The South Dakota football team posted one of its top offensive performances of the season to propel the Coyotes to a thrilling 50-48 victory over Cal Poly in front of more than 7,900 fans in San Luis Obispo, Calif. The win handed the Mustangs their first home loss of the season and sealed a 5-5 season for USD, while also giving the Coyotes third place in the Great West Conference with a 2-2 record.

CFB: USF Beats Morningside For GPAC Title

NAIA No. 1 University of Sioux Falls defeated No. 4 Morningside College (9-1 overall, 9-1 Great Plains Athletic Conference) 49-21 in a highly anticipated showdown for the GPAC title in Sioux City, Iowa on the campus of Morningside.
Senior quarterback Lorenzo Brown (Bristol, Conn.) threw for four scores, three to junior receiver Jon Ryan (Watertown, S.D.) and added two more touchdowns on the ground in the second half to help close the game out.

CFB: Jacks Fall Short At Minnesota

Eric Ellestad’s third field goal of the game, with 2 minutes and 22 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter, gave Minnesota a 16-13 victory over visiting South Dakota State Saturday afternoon at TCF Bank Stadium.
Minnesota improved to 6-5 overall and became bowl-eligible with the victory.

CVB: Northwestern Wins GPAC Tournament

Third-ranked Northwestern defeated 18th-ranked Doane 3-0 (25-23, 26-24, 25-22) in the GPAC Volleyball Championship played tonight in Orange City, Iowa. The Red Raiders, who won the regular season championship as well, won their 20th straight match and improve to 33-2 on the season. Doane, the third seed in the 12-team tournament, falls to 28-8.

MBK: Oregon State Pulls Away Late To Beat USD

Calvin Haynes and Roeland Schaftenaar had 14 points each to lead Oregon State to a 62-47 win over The University of South Dakota men’s basketball team in action Saturday night in Lubbock, Texas.
Oregon State (1-1), which competes in the Pac 10, led 32-21 at halftime.

The Coyotes (0-2) were led by Louie Krogman (So., White River, S.D.), who had 11 points.

MBK: SDSU Rolls At Wyoming

Clint Sargent scored 18 points as South Dakota State defeated Wyoming 77-61 Friday in the season opener for both teams.

The Jackrabbits used hot outside shooting to score 13 unanswered points early, building a double-digit lead that they held the rest of the way. South Dakota State led by as many as 28 in the second half.

WBK: Jacks Rally Past Gonzaga In OT

Not even Friday The 13th could bring an end to the South Dakota State University women’s basketball team’s home-court dominance.
The Jackrabbits overcame ragged play and a 13-point first-half deficit to down Gonzaga (Wash.) 75-71 in an overtime thriller between two of the top mid-major programs in the country.

MBK: Coyotes Drop Opener To Texas Tech 88-49

Senior forward Tyler Cain posted 11 points and grabbed nine rebounds, but The University of South Dakota basketball team lost 88-49 at Texas Tech as part of the Duel in the Desert tournament. The contest was the first of the 2009-10 season for both squads.
A native of Rochester, Minn., Cain also added two steals and two blocks to lead the Coyotes, but battled foul trouble during the contest and USD was cold from the floor.

MBK: Ellsworth's Gruis Signs With USD

The USD men's basketball team has landed its second big man in as many days.
Ellsworth, Minnesota standout Trevor Gruis signed a National Letter of Intent Thursday, becoming the first Panther to ever commit to a division one program.

Gruis has averaged better than 11 points and seven rebounds in 98 career games, including 81 starts.

CWR: No. 2 Iowa State Overpowers SDSU

Redshirt freshman Aaron Pickrel led the SDSU wrestling team to its only win as the No. 2 Iowa State Cyclones flattened the Jacks 43-3.
The Cyclones wrestled six ranked wrestlers (Intermat) and recorded eight wins by extra-point victories including two by fall, two by technical fall and a SDSU forfeit at 133 pounds.

CBK: Larson Heads List On National Signing Day

Iowa has signed prep basketball players Ben Brust, Cody Larson, Devyn Marble, and Zach McCabe to national letters of intent.
Larson, a 6-foot-9 forward from Sioux Falls, S.D., was a first-team all-state pick in 2008-09.

Rock Valley, Iowa standouts Marcus Heemstra and Jordan Dykstra signed National Letters of Intent on Wednesday, indicating their plans to enroll at South Dakota State University in the fall and compete for the Jackrabbit men’s basketball team.

CVB: Northwestern Downs Dordt In GPAC Semis

The Dordt College Defender volleyball team pushed the Northwestern Red Raiders in the Great Plains Athletic Conference semifinals on Wednesday night but couldn't close the deal in losing a 3-1 decision at the hands of the regular season conference champion.
Dordt lost set one 25-22 after leading briefly at 17-15 on three straight hitting errors by the Raiders.

WBK: Winona St Edges USD In Exhibition Opener

Ana Wurtz scored 19 points to lead Winona State past The University of South Dakota women’s basketball team, 52-48, in an exhibition contest Wednesday night at Cimpl Arena in Yankton, S.D.
It was the exhibition opener for USD, while it was the third exhibition game for Winona State.

Abby Kinder (Jr., Granger, Ind.) had 16 points to lead USD, while Amber Hegge (So., Crofton, Neb.) added a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds.

WBK: Augie Wins Exhibition Opener

The Augustana women’s basketball team defeated Hamline University 79-62 in an exhibition contest Wednesday night at the Elmen Center. The Vikings trailed by as many as 13 points in the first half before outscoring the Pipers 53-33 in the second to secure the victory.
Augustana was plagued by poor shooting during the first half as they were only 2 of 15 (13.3 percent) from the field in the first nine minutes of the game.

MBK: No. 4 DWU Wins Home Opener

The fourth-ranked Dakota Wesleyan University men’s basketball showed just how many scoring options it has in its 2009-10 home opener Wednesday night at the Corn Palace in Mitchell. Seven different Tigers scored at least nine points in the team’s 92-60 win over Grace University.
DWU (3-1) got on the board with an emphatic dunk from senior Preston Broughton just 48 seconds into the game and used that momentum to open with a 9-2 run.

MBK: Gophers' White Investigated For 2nd Theft

A University of Minnesota spokesman says suspended freshman forward Royce White is being investigated in the theft of a laptop computer at campus dormitory.
Gophers spokesman Garry Bowman says he doesn't have details other than police are investigating the theft and White's name came up.

University of Minnesota Deputy Police Chief Chuck Miner says he can't confirm White is a suspect because the investigation is ongoing and because of data privacy laws.

CFB: O'Brien To Start For Jacks At Minnesota

SDSU football coach John Stiegelmeier is going with the hot hand at quarterback for Saturday's game at Minnesota.
Stiegelmeier said redshirt freshman Thomas O'Brien will get the start against the Gophers, after leading the Jacks to a pair of fourth quarter touchdown drives in last week's 34-15 loss to Southern Illinois.

Senior Ryan Crawford started Saturday's game against the Salukis, but was lifted in the third quarter in favor of O'Brien after 15 of 29 passes for 147 yards and an interception, which was returned for a Salukis touchdown.

WSOC: DWU Advances To GPAC Title Game

The Dakota Wesleyan University women’s soccer team already has one Great Plains Athletic Conference championship this season and, thanks to today’s 3-1 win over Hastings College, it will get a chance to play for one more.
The top-seeded Tigers (17-0-3) remained unbeaten and advanced to the GPAC Postseason Women’s Soccer Tournament championship game thanks to a strong showing in the second half of Tuesday’s semifinal at Cadwell Park in Mitchell.

CBK: USF Sweeps Home Doubleheader

MKB: USF 68, Minnesota-Crookston 67
Despite only scoring two points over the final 5:43, the University of Sioux Falls men’s basketball team (3-1 overall) held on to defeat NCAA Division II University of Minnesota-Crookston 68-67 Tuesday night in the Stewart Center.

Iowa QB Stanzi Doubtful For Final 2 Games

Iowa coach Kirk Ferentz says junior quarterback Ricky Stanzi has had surgery to repair a severely sprained ankle and is "very doubtful" for Iowa's final two regular season games.
Stanzi injured his right ankle in the second quarter of No. 15 Iowa's 17-10 loss to Northwestern last weekend and did not return.
